Space Play

Audrey & Mrs. Michaud
Averie, Audrey in her space suit, & Colleen

Audrey's class just finished studying space. Each student researched a planet. (Audrey's was Uranus.) With that information, they made a power point presentation and wrote lines to a play which they performed in space suits. They also presented their homemade robots, a huge cardboard rocket that they made as a team, researched constellations, and shared their homemade shadow boxes showing their constellation with written reports. (Audrey 's was Pegasus.) They created their own unique solar system and decided what attributes each planet would have and wrote reports and made water color tantagrams illustrating it. The class made a large planetarium with their constellations punched into the ceiling of a ground cover. You could go into the large (30 feet by 20 feet) black plastic bag filled with flowing air to view the constellations with a flashlight. Its hard to describe! But, it was super cool! They also sang several songs and served yummy treats (Milky way bars, starbursts, moon pies, etc). It was an amazing night! They also got to go on a field trip to the space exhibit at OMSI and watch a planetarium show called "Adventures in a Cardboard Rocket." Audrey's teacher should win an award for creativity and enthusiasm.
